Praying God's Word

The last (but certainly not least) book that I will be talking about this month is Praying God's Word by Beth Moore. Before I started reading this book, I had never really thought about the principle before, but Beth Moore discusses the importance of our prayers lining up with what God's Word says.

The Bible tells us that God desires for us to pray. He wants us to pray to Him. But so often, our prayers focus only on ourselves and our desires. If we are praying what God's Word says, though, we cannot really go wrong in what we are asking.

Praying God's Word is divided into several different chapters. Each chapter deals with a different stronghold that Christians may face. Beth Moore has found verses that deal with each stronghold, and shows us how to pray for each one.

I love this book for my prayer life, and it is also a good resource to use as a kind of "topical index" to find verses about different things.

A lot of times, as Christians, we fall behind in our prayer lives, so if you are looking for a boost, I recommend this book.

"Stuff"

I don't know about you, but I LOVE "stuff." I love new clothes, office supplies, and pretty much anything new. Unfortunately, I am probably to attached to my stuff. I can't imagine if I had to live without a lot of the things I have. But Matthew 6:19 and 20 tells us, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal." This Scripture really convicts me that I need to be more concerned about my heavenly treasure and less concerned about my earthly treasure. One day, I will no longer be on the earth and the things I have here will no longer matter. So, with these things in mind, I need to have an attitude of thankfulness for the things that I do have, but I shouldn't be so attached to them that they consume my life. I recently got a new cell phone and it has been a really great thing to have, but I think I enjoy it a little to much. I text pretty much all the time and don't leave time for the things that are really important. These verses have convicted me that I need to spend less time texting and more time reading God's Word and praying. I hope this post encourages you to store up many treasures in Heaven.

Prayer Part 2

I did a post a while back on why we pray. This post will explain more about how we pray. In James 5, we are told lots of reasons to pray for people. If they're in trouble, if they're sick, if they've sinned, we should pray for them. Lots of times we forget to pray for others, to confess our sins to God, and to thank Him for all that He has given us. So, next time you pray, remember the word CAT: Confessing, Asking, Thanksgiving. We should confess to God the sins that we have committed against Him. We should ask God to help us and others with problems we are having and trials we are facing. We should also ask Him to heal those who are sick and intercede for those who are in trouble. And, we should thank God for all of the good things that He has given us. This is something I struggle with because lots of times I get so wrapped up in my issues that I forget to thank Christ and pray for others. I hope my post on prayer were helpful to you!

This is an outline from a message I heard preached on prayer.

1)Why should we pray?
a)God commands it.
b)Prayer glorifies God.

2)How does prayer glorify God?
a)We acknowledge that we don't have the power to grant the request that we have presented before God.
b)When God answers our request, we in turn give Him the glory and honor.

3)What happens when we commit to the Lord?
a)We desire what He wants for us.
b)He gives us what we need to do His will.

4)How does prayer affect us and our relationship with God?
a)Prayer is a part of God's plan for what He wants for us.
b) Prayer helps us to accomplish God's will, make us like Him, and glorify Him.
